B85-BTC Q87 Motherboard BIOS Update (Problem: Cannot update to latest Nvidia driver)
-
Create a FreeDOS Bootable USB
On a different PC, Download and run Rufus
Plug in an empty USB Drive
Change Boot Selection to: FreeDOS (See screenshot for settings)
Click Start. (Warning, this will wipe all data from the USB)
-
Download the BIOS and copy to bootable USB
Extract the contents of Q87 BIOS 05232022.rar to the root of your FreeDOS USB.
The screenshot above is what everything on the USB should look like, after you’ve extracted the BIOS files.
-
Set your motherboard CSM settings to Legacy
On your Q87 Motherboard, unplug the OS Drive, and boot into the BIOS with no drives attached.
Navigate to: Advanced > CSM Configuration
Change Storage and Video to: Legacy
Change Boot option filter to: UEFI and Legacy
-
Boot from FreeDOS, and flash
Plug in the FreeDOS bootable USB to your Q87 motherboard, and boot from it.
It will bring you to a command prompt (See screenshot)
Type: 1.bat and press Enter.
-
Wait for it to complete!
You may see red or yellow text with messages:
“PDR/GBE Region does not exist”
“Could not communicate with the HECI”
These can be ignored.
Wait a few minutes for it to complete, and do not power down or interrupt the process!
-
Shutdown and final steps
Once completed, remove the FreeDOS USB and shutdown.
Reconnect your OS Drive and boot. It will power cycle 2-3 times, and take longer than usual to boot for the first time.
From here, you will likely want to update to the latest HiveOS, and update to the latest Nvidia Drivers.
